Verification matrix and evidence

The statuses below come from testing of the released toolchain by the project team. No capability is listed as working unless it was compiled and run. This is not an independent third-party audit. No benchmarks, download counts or community statistics are published anywhere on this site.

What was tested

Archive rudra-1.1.0-selfhost-linux-x86_64.tar.gz (RUDRA 1.1.0, 242,197 bytes), SHA256 13c31b6cadb74404812783e369fde08032dd671085c384c279e900073a7043b2, checked on 2026-11-06. The Debian package rudra-1.1.0-selfhost-amd64.deb (170,308 bytes) has SHA256 902a3ea0e95fa7bd85e7a153d235de648a09981f5d85d4f5fc3accb7147f88f6. Tests ran on Linux x86_64 with the ruxc binary from this release.

Earlier releases

Versions 1.0.0 and 1.0.1 were an earlier, Rust-based toolchain (with macOS and Windows installers). They are not the current toolchain. The 1.1.0 self-hosted toolchain is Linux x86-64 only, and features of the earlier toolchain such as spawn, mutex, channel and http_get builtins do not exist in it. Tools in the source repository that are not yet released are listed on the roadmap.

Evidence

Compile and run a program

VERIFIED

Programs compiled with the released ruxc and ran with the expected output. For example, a hello program printed Hello, RUDRA! with exit code 0, and the rudra wrapper (rudra hello.rux hello, then ./hello) produced the same result.

Structs, enums and match

VERIFIED

A program computing areas from a payload enum (Shape.Circle(5), Shape.Square(4), Shape.Empty) printed 75, 16 and 0, and a struct sample printed 7.

Division-by-zero trap and bounds-checked lists

VERIFIED

A program that divides by a runtime zero terminated abnormally (exit status 134) instead of continuing, and reading list index 5 of a one-element list also terminated abnormally.

Channels

PARTIALLY VERIFIED

Three values sent with chan_send_status were received in the same order (100, 200, 300), and a further non-blocking receive on the empty channel returned status 2. Capacity is finite; behaviour under heavy load was not exercised in this verification.

JSON

PARTIALLY VERIFIED

json_get on a JSON object returned the expected string and integer values, json_valid accepted a well-formed document and rejected a malformed one. Arrays and nested lookups were not exercised.

HTTP helpers (numeric IP)

PARTIALLY VERIFIED

http_get_request built a GET request that http_req_method and http_req_path parsed back, and http_response with http_resp_status and http_resp_body round-tripped a 200 response. A live request against a server was not exercised in this verification.

Hostname resolution (DNS)

PARTIALLY VERIFIED

dns_resolve("localhost") returned 127.0.0.1 and dns_aaaa_supported() returned false. Resolution against public DNS servers was not exercised in this verification.

Threads and mutex builtins

NOT VERIFIED

The self-hosted compiler has no spawn, mutex_new, lock or unlock builtin. Only fork-based process helpers exist in std/thread.

Authenticated HTTPS / TLS

PLANNED

TLS 1.3 and X.509 modules ship in the standard library, but certificate authentication is not wired into a live client. No authenticated HTTPS is claimed.

Known discrepancies and limitations

  • The released ruxc is a statically linked x86-64 ELF with no runtime dependencies. Earlier site text that described dynamically linked binaries applied to the previous Rust-based toolchain and has been corrected.
  • The only released command forms are ruxc <file.rux> <output> and rudra <file.rux> <output>. There is no --run or -o flag, and no rudra new, build, check, clean, doctor, run or version command in 1.1.0.
  • A program runs its top-level statements. A file that only defines fn main() compiles but prints nothing; end the file with return main();.
  • print takes only a str; convert integers with to_str(n), and add "\n" yourself.
  • Imports resolve only for modules in the same directory as the source. The rudra wrapper copies the standard library there.
  • Traits, impl blocks, closures, tuples, fixed-size arrays, hex and binary literals, block comments and const are not implemented. Generics syntax is accepted but erased.
  • Option and Result are not built-in types, and the ? operator is not a built-in feature.
  • Channels, JSON, HTTP helpers and DNS are standard-library modules with their own function names; there are no http_get, json_get, spawn or mutex builtins.
  • No guarantee is made that the software is free of defects or vulnerabilities.

Status definitions

  • VERIFIED - compiled and run with the expected result.
  • PARTIALLY VERIFIED - present and runs, but a part of the claim was not fully exercised.
  • PLANNED - documented as roadmap, not shipped.
  • NOT VERIFIED - could not be confirmed, or observed not to work as documented.
